Most people who sincerely want to accomplish something don't realize that they are to some extent sabotaging their efforts toward accomplishing it. One way that they do this is having a negative mindset towards the accomplishment of their goal. They have big dreams and ambitions and may even talk to others about how they are going to do this or that. Inside, however, is that little voice that keeps nagging at them with negative self-talk and asking the wrong questions. If you have been overweight for most of your life then you have more than likely asked yourself, can I lose these pounds? Will I ever lose any weight? You're not alone. Some people who have weight problems ask themselves these questions every day.


The one thing that a lot of people neglect when going on a diet or starting an exercise program so they can shed the weight is their mindset. They can be very disciplined about eating nutritious foods and starting a good exercise program but, the part that lags behind and can help to sabotage their efforts is their attitude or mindset. Their state of mind.


Meal Planning, counting calories and 15 minutes of exercise a day are all good but, you also have to keep your thinking in check. If you don't you might be tempted to go off your diet or cheat a little bit too much. You also might be tempted to stop working with your program and try one of those bogus diet products or a program that is just another one of those weight loss scams. This is what starts the downward spiral and then everything starts to fall apart.


And it can start not from eating the wrong thing or not exercising or from not having a plan. It comes from not having the right attitude or mindset. From not being in the right state of mind. So how do you get this mindset that will keep you from sabotaging your efforts and helps you stay on track so you can shed the weight?


The first thing is you have to stop asking yourself if you can lose weight and start telling yourself you will lose weight. To continue to ask yourself questions about your ability to lose weight keeps you in a state of doing nothing instead of taking action. And we all know that things don't change when we do nothing. To overcome this tendency to be our own worst enemy in this way is a battle that must be won. And with a little persistence it can be.


The next step is to get people around you that are for you and not against you. Choose people you know are ready, willing, and able to be supportive of your efforts anytime you might be going through somewhat of a rough spot. Also, don't worry about people who make sarcastic or downright cruel jokes or comments about your efforts. Simply ignore them. I know it's hard but, in this situation you have to in order to keep the right attitude while moving towards your goal.


After doing a little research choose a diet and exercise program that you feel is well suited to your lifestyle and will help you lose the weight. You then must have faith in the process. You have to realize that you are going to change. A change that perhaps you have wanted for a long time. This change will be obvious to yourself and everyone around you. But, this type of change does not happen without sticking to a plan. Without being determined to see it through.


You automatically get that type of determination by first believing that you can lose the pounds and then by believing that the plan you have chosen will work. Having faith in the process. Also, having this mindset keeps you away from weight loss scams and bogus diet products. The ones that promise ultra-fast results but are just another gimmick or quick fix at best.


Know that you are the one who makes the ultimate decision as to whether you win or lose this battle. This is really no different from any other type of contest or competition. No champion or warrior ever won any battle by themselves. But, despite any help from others the ultimate decision is still up to you. This may seem somewhat depressing at first but, think of how you will feel when you reach your goal. It can only feel good to know that you made and followed through on the decision that got you there.



Thinking about and acting on your goal from this new perspective. And only from this new perspective. Not going back and forth between the old way of thinking and the new way, and having the right people around you for support when needed are the ideas that need to be put into place. When you do you will reap all the rewards of having and being in a weight loss state of mind.
